Can Blueberries Fight Gum Disease?

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of gum disease, please call Oradell family dentist Dr. Howard Perlmutter at (201) 384-9292 to schedule an examination todayA new study from Université Laval in Canada has found that polyphenols in the lowland wild blueberry bush, Vaccinium angustifolium Ait., may help fight some of the main bacteria related to gum disease. Researchers found that polyphenols specific to this plant reduced the amount of certain bacteria in the gums while also helping to reduce swelling. While the potential is unknown, this may lead to the development of exciting new antibiotic-free gum disease treatments.
