Caring for Dental Restorations

No matter if your restorations are cosmetic or general, you will want to care for them to ensure they last. Fortunately, caring for dental restorations such as veneers and crowns doesn’t require much special consideration.

Bergenfield dentist Dr. Howard Perlmutter utilizes quality materials for all of his restorations. These materials are durable, natural-looking, and resistant to staining, but can still be damaged if not properly cared for.

Following the placement of your restorations, Dr. Perlmutter will discuss specific steps you can take in detail. Generally speaking however, you will care for your veneers or crowns by:

  • Using a soft bristled toothbrush and a nonabrasive toothpaste to brush at least twice a day
  • Refraining from chewing on ice or hard candy
  • Using a mouthwash that does not contain alcohol or other astringent ingredients

It is important to remember that, while stain resistant, porcelain and ceramics cannot be whitened. You can help keep your restorations bright and attractive by minimizing consumption of dark foods and beverages, and brushing after every meal and snack.
