How Long do Porcelain Veneers Last?

Although porcelain veneers are designed to be durable and long-lasting, they do not come with an expiration date, and how long they actually last will depend on a number of factors.

Prior to your porcelain veneers procedure, Bergen County, New Jersey, cosmetic dentist Dr. Howard Perlmutter will thoroughly review your porcelain veneers care guidelines with you. Following Dr. Perlmutter’s recommendations will help ensure your porcelain veneers provide you with a bright, healthy looking smile for years to come.

With proper care, porcelain veneers can generally be expected to last at least 10 to 15 years without the need for replacement. Maintenance of your porcelain veneers includes brushing your teeth at least twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush, flossing after brushing at least once a day, and visiting Dr. Perlmutter at Dumont Cosmetic Dental at least twice every year for check-ups and professional teeth cleaning.

If you do not practice a good oral health routine, the bonding material used to affix your porcelain veneers to the surfaces of your teeth can deteriorate, causing the veneers to loosen. Likewise, habits such as pen chewing, ice chewing or nail biting can cause your porcelain veneers to crack or chip prematurely.

If you would like to learn more about the benefits of porcelain veneers, please contact Dumont Cosmetic Dental to schedule your personal consultation with Dr. Howard Perlmutter. We welcome patients from the Dumont, Bergenfield, Paramus, Haworth and Bergen County, New Jersey, areas.
