Your Child’s First Dental Visit

One of the most important things to remember about dentistry is that it’s all about good habits. Once dental hygiene becomes a habit, something you just do as a part of your day, you’ll be on the road to sound dental health.

This is one of the key elements of our family dentistry practice. We want your child to learn good dental habits as early as possible- the sooner a child gets into the habit of brushing his or her teeth, flossing regularly and going to the dentist every six months or so, the better.

Children’s dentistry, then, is all about getting your child comfortable with the dentist while he or she learns the dental habits that will last the rest of his or her life. Your child’s first dental visit will be simple and low stress. It will be an opportunity for us to get to know your child and for your child to get to know us.

At what age should your child have his or her first visit? It varies from child to child, but it might be even earlier than you expect. Talk to our dentists about when to bring in your child for the initial visit. It’s important to get an early start on learning those hygiene habits.
