If you have avoided important dental treatments due to past bad dental experiences, we encourage you to talk to us about how sedation dentistry can help you receive the care you need in a comfortable, relaxed manner. With Anxiety-free Dentistry you don’t have to be afraid anymore.
What is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry involves the use of different types of oral medications that you will take on the day of your appointment. Our experienced clinical team will make certain that you are relaxed and completely comfortable while monitoring you very closely while you are relaxing the time away. Patients feel no discomfort whatsoever during treatment and when your procedure is over, you will most likely not remember much about the experience. For your safety, we require that a family member or friend drive you home. Sedation dentistry is ideal for patients with severe dental anxiety or who are undergoing extensive treatments.
Our gentle dentist Dr. Howard Perlmutter is highly trained in the field of sedation dentistry. He is a member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS), and he is licensed in the state of New Jersey to practice Enteral Conscious Sedation. Your sedation dentistry treatment will be conducted according to the highest standards of safety.
Sedation Dentistry Options
Sedation dentistry uses anesthesia techniques to help you relax during your procedure. Local anesthesia is used to numb the area directly around the teeth that Oradell sedation dentist Dr. Howard Perlmutter will be treating. However, if you experience unusually high levels of anxiety when undergoing dental treatment, he may also recommend other forms of anesthesia to put you into a semi-conscious state, from which you will awaken with little or no memory of the procedure.
Dr. Perlmutter offers the following sedation dentistry options:
- Oral sedation – You will take a pill 30-60 minutes before your treatment to place you in a relaxed, semi-conscious state. You will be able to answer questions and follow Dr. Perlmutter’s instructions during your procedure.
- Nitrous Oxide – Also referred to as laughing gas, nitrous oxide will be administered through a mask prior to and during your procedure. Since nitrous oxide gas wears off quickly, you should be able to drive home following your treatment.
What are the benefits of sedation dentistry?
The main benefit of sedation dentistry is its ability to help you feel calm and relaxed while undergoing difficult or long dental procedures. However, it also provides patients suffering from acute dental anxiety with the ability to undergo treatment without the emotional stress that they usually experience.
