Many dental procedures at Dumont Cosmetic Dental require incisions or other things that can cause pain. Some patients are able to become numb through Novocain or another pain blocker. However, there are some people who have difficulty becoming numb to certain medications. Your safety and comfort are our two primary concerns. If you are not able to undergo a dental procedure without feeling pain, Dr. Perlmutter will recommend sedation for you. Sedation dentistry is able to keep patients in a semi-conscious state to follow instructions, but they will not feel anything. In addition, there is often a type of amnesia, which makes remembering the entire procedure difficult. Patients who must undergo complex dental procedures, such as dental implants or a root canal, will be sedated using oral sedation by being given a pill an hour or 90 minutes before their procedure. Dr. Perlmutter is a member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS) and is highly trained in administering sedatives to his patients. This training as well as his experience allows Dr. Perlmutter to be able to get his patients as numb as they must be in a very safe environment.
