All-on-4® Dental Implants: A Wonder of Modern Dentistry

Based on decades of research and development, All-on-4 is truly a revolution in modern dentistry. Based on the groundbreaking concept of osseointegration—the biological fusion of bone to another material introduced in 1982 by Dr. Per-Ingvar Brånemark—All-on-4 takes the science even further by anchoring an entire set of teeth using four titanium implants.

In 1998, the first All-on-4 procedure was performed by Dr. Paulo Malo. Today, All-on-4 is widely recognized as one of the most significant developments in the history of modern dentistry. Dr. Perlmutter has had the pleasure of studying with Dr. Malo in Portugal, where he mastered the restorative techniques and protocols of All-on-4.

What Are All-on-4® Dental Implants?

The All-on-4 treatment is a permanent solution that gives patients in Oradell the freedom to eat, smile, and laugh without constraint. This life-changing, same-day procedure is ideal for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth.

The All-on-4 concept involves the attachment of a full-arch prosthesis to the jaw using only four dental implants. This prosthesis is permanent–a patient does not have to remove it daily as they would with dentures. The All-on-4 procedure is a natural solution for individuals with decayed or broken teeth or who have bone loss.

Is the All-on-4® Dental Implants Procedure Right for Me?

If you are considering the All-on-4 procedure to restore your smile, you should keep these important considerations in mind:

Missing Teeth

Since the All-On-4 procedure involves a full-arch prosthesis, all remaining teeth must be extracted. If you have any teeth remaining before the procedure, you will have them removed by the oral surgeon on the date of your surgery.

Good Health

As with any surgery, it is important that you are in good health.  At your initial consultation with your oral surgeon, he will evaluate you to determine if the All-On-4 procedure is right for you.

To discover more about your eligibility and suitability for the All-On-4 procedure, schedule a consultation with Dr. Perlmutter at our dental office in Oradell.

Your All-on-4® Dental Implants Procedure With Dr. Perlmutter

During your initial consultation at Oradell Family Dental, Dr. Perlmutter will thoroughly evaluate you and your needs. He will then refer you to an oral surgeon for a consultation.  Once determined that an All-on-4 denture is the best treatment for your dental health, the two doctors will work together to restore your smile with an All-on-4 denture:. A permanent prosthesis anchored by 4 implants.

If you are a candidate for the All-on-4 procedure, Dr. Perlmutter will begin the process by taking impressions of your teeth. These impressions will then be sent to the lab and used to create the interim denture.

Once your denture is complete, the first part of the surgical procedure will take place at your oral surgeon’s office. This part of the procedure will involve all the extractions and the placement of the implants.

After the oral surgeon is finished with his part of the process, Dr. Perlmutter and the lab technician will work together to convert the interim denture to fit over your implants. Osseointegration takes approximately six months, at which point your oral surgeon will schedule a follow-up appointment to check your healing. He will then release you to have your permanent All-on-4 denture created with Dr. Perlmutter.

Once your implants have integrated with the bone—in a process called osseointegration— Dr. Perlmutter will take a new impression for your permanent screw retained All-on-4 prosthesis. Once the permanent denture is received from our dental lab, Dr. Perlmutter will insert it with special drivers.

Regular care of your restoration is important for maintaining your new, beautiful smile. This fixed prothesis can only be removed by a licensed dentist. Implant maintenance is required every 4 months when treatment is complete to protect the supportive tissues and implant components. The 1st implant maintenance visit will be 4 months after your final placement date.

Benefits of Full Arch Restorations

All-on-4 full arch restorations may be an ideal dental procedure for Oradell patients who have lost their upper or lower teeth. While the full restoration process is lengthy, you will leave your surgeon’s office with a temporary fixed prosthesis so you can begin to feel more confident about your appearance.

Compared to removable dentures, full arch restorations can lead to a significant improvement in your quality of life, including better chewing, speaking, and overall oral function. These prosthetics are made from porcelain, so they look and perform like your own teeth.
