Root Canal Treatment – Endodontics

If you have tooth pain, do not wait to make an appointment at the dentist’s office. Pain commonly does not become apparent until tooth decay is already advanced and endangering the health of your tooth. If this pain is allowed to remain untreated, you may require a root canal. Ultimately, failure to remedy the condition may endanger your tooth and even your health.

What is a Dental Abscesses and how can a Root Canal Treat it?

A dental abscess is a tooth which is no longer healthy on the inside. This may begin as a cavity which has developed because of bacteria attacking the outer layer of tooth enamel that protects the softer dentin material on the inside of your tooth.

If a cavity goes untreated, the tooth may continue to decay. Eventually, the decay may seep down into the root of the tooth, creating a pocket of puss at the base of the root where it connects to your nerve. This pocket of puss is what causes tooth pain in many cases, and it requires immediate endodontic surgery, also known as a root canal.

Why "Root Canal" is a Positive Phrase

Many people cringe when they hear the words "root canal" or "endodontic surgery." But in reality, this valuable procedure can be a literal life saver. While it is uncommon for individuals to die of tooth abscesses in our modern society, it is actually possible to die from an infection that spreads from an untreated tooth abscess.

A root canal removes the soft dentin and decaying nerve material from your tooth and replaces it with a more resilient rubber filling. In many cases, severe tooth pain is immediately alleviated once a root canal is completed, and after the tooth has recovered from the surgery, it is unlikely to suffer a relapse. A root canal literally removes the portion of your tooth which causes you to feel intense dental pain.

Need Relief from Your Tooth Pain?

You cannot completely prevent the need for endodontic surgery, but you can help protect your teeth against the decay that requires a root canal by being diligent about your dental hygiene routine and having regular dental checkups which can identify cavities early on and treat them before they become abscesses.
